WINONA LAKE - Craig Allebach, captain of the Warsaw Police Department, was selected by the Winona Lake Town Council to fill the town coordinator position Tuesday.

"Thank you very much," Allebach said to the council. "I appreciate the opportunity to work with you."

President of the Winona Lake Town Council, Jerry Clevenger, said Allebach's starting date will be May 15. Clevenger also said the contract is for one year of employment and is renewable at the end of each year.

Allebach will be paid $49,000 per year in his new position and will be responsible for coordinating the activities of other town employees, managing and overseeing the operations of the town and attempting to locate grants that Winona Lake would be eligible for. Allebach also will be an active liaison to the town council.

Town Marshal Malcolm Gilbert welcomed Allebach aboard and said he looks forward to working with him.

Clevenger said he and the council members are "excited to have Craig Allebach on board with his wealth of experience and education."

Allebach has completed more than 20 years of service with the Warsaw Police Department and will retire soon to assume the town coordinator's position.

• Herbert Teeter, West 12th Street, requested a curb modification.

Teeter said former street superintendent Kim Endicott assured him the curb would be cut.

"The curb is considerably higher than my existing yard and causes flooding problems where my patio is located," Teeter said.

Teeter also said the curb obstructs the entrance into his garage at the back of his yard.

Street superintendent Bart Jones said the cutting could be done.

Council members approved Teeter's curb modification request.

• David and Deanna King, Second Street, submitted a request for reimbursement of labor and property damage totalling $165.60.

David said two shrubs were damaged due to snow dumped on them from the town snow plow. They requested reimbursement for eight shrubs, dirt removal, seeding, landscaping, yard rolling, roller rental and labor.

Clevenger said the council will respond to the Kings with a letter indicating which expenses will be covered. At this point, the council will fund the cost of two shrubs.

• Clevenger recognized the Winona Lake Fire Department for their work Thursday during the rain storm.

"I know they worked hard last Thursday," Clevenger said. "I appreciate the work they've done."

Members of the Winona Lake Town Council include: President Jerry Clevenger, Jeff Carroll, David Delp, Craig Snow and Rolly Ortega.
