Andrew K. Alexander, 22, of 5769 W. Quail Road, Mentone, was scheduled to be tried by a jury this morning for two felony-level drug charges in Kosciusko County Circuit Court, Judge Michael Reed presiding. Alexander was arrested Oct. 7, 2014, for possession of a narcotic drug and dealing a narcotic drug. Before the trial began, Alexander and his attorney, Andrew Grossnickle, withdrew the original plea of not guilty and presented Reed with a guilty plea agreement. Alexander pleaded guilty to dealing heroin, a level 5 felony. The plea would waive the second count of possession of a narcotic. The sentencing for a level 5 drug felony can include up to $10,000 in fees and four years in prison. The guilty plea agreement cancelled the trial by jury. Alexander will appear before Reed Jan. 28 at 8:30 a.m. where Reed will either accept or deny the plea agreement.
