Alcohol Sales Banned On New Year's Eve, Day

Posted

Alcohol cannot be sold for carry-out Sunday or Monday, according to the Indiana Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

State law prohibits carry-out on all Sundays and this year New Year's Eve falls on a Sunday. State statute also prohibits carry-out on New Year's Day, resulting in two consecutive dry days.

For those who want to drink alcohol at their favorite restaurant or bar, only those places with a Sunday permit may serve alcohol. But, since New Year's Eve falls on a Sunday, state law allows alcohol to be served until 3 a.m. Ordinarily, bars or restaurants must stop serving alcohol at 12:30 a.m. on Sundays.

All restaurants and bars may resume their usual service on Monday, New Year's Day.

One exception is that the state's wineries may sell their own products on Sunday. To find out where they are, visit their Web site at www.indianawines.org

Only Hoosiers 21 and older may buy, possess or drink alcohol.

Anyone celebrating the New Year or watching the bowl games should remember to drink responsibly and never drink and drive. Using a designated driver is a great way to start the new year.
