Kosciusko County Alcohol Beverage Commission tabled renewing Barbee Hotel & Restaurant’s three-way liquor license Thursday.
The commission also approved renewing three-way liquor licenses for Marsh Drugs, 500 E. Buffalo St., Warsaw, and Jimmy’s Restaurant and Lounge, 407 W. Himes St., North Webster.
Commission President Gordon Vanator made the motion to table renewing the three-way liquor license for Barbee Hotel & Restaurant, Warsaw. The motion was seconded by board member Elim Smith.
The commission tabled the request and asked Lena Ferguson, Barbee Hotel manager, to have the establishment’s owner attend the April 5 meeting to speak on behalf of the request and provide information on food sales.
During Thursday’s meeting, Ferguson said the establishment had one violation with three charges last March and paid a $500 fine for the violation.
The charges were an employee not having an employee gaming permit, having credit sales when seven customers ran up bar tabs Monday through Friday and did not pay until Friday, and the establishment sold paper gambling and pull tabs when its type two gaming license was expired.
“It is the responsibility of the bar to keep records to make sure the employees have valid licenses,” said April Tackett, excise officer.
Ferguson said she has been manager at the establishment for the past six years, and was the manager when the violation occurred.
Vanator said the liquor license renewal request was too vague and information on food sales needs to be provided.
Smith said he felt the owner should have attended Thursday’s meeting instead of the manager to seek approval for the liquor license renewal.
Ferguson said he is in Illinois and she will ask him to attend the April meeting.
In other business, Smith informed the board LaTroje, a new Mexican restaurant that will open on South Buffalo Street, Warsaw, will be seeking approval from the commission for a three-way liquor license at its April meeting.
The commission meets the first Thursday of the month on the third floor of the Kosciusko County courthouse at 1 p.m.
