Alcohol Board Renews Six Licenses, Transfers one

Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage board Thursday approved a license renewal for The Bowling Alley with one violation.
Charles Kane, manager of the alley at 1535 N. Detroit St., received the underage sale violation last December, for which he paid $550 in fines.
Board members sympathized with him when he explained that he made the sale to a young woman who came in with an undercover excise officer, thinking they were part of a birthday party going on at the time. He said he had already checked the IDs of everyone in the party.
“I was not as attentive as I should be,” he said, adding that he trained his staff to be more alert as well. “I learned a lesson, I’m telling you.”
A renewal with violation for The Bulldog Saloon in Mentone was also on the agenda but was postponed to the Jan. 3 meeting because no one from the bar attended the meeting.
And they approved a license transfer for Harold Huyghe, longtime owner of The Claypool Inn in Claypool. The license was transferred back from temporary owner Patricia Blankenship.
Board members approved the following license renewals with no violations:
– BPO Elks #802, Warsaw
– The Pastime, Pierceton
– Down Under, Syracuse
– Pak A Sak Convenience Store, Pierceton
– Time Out Inn, Warsaw
