MENTONE - If students at Akron Elementary School collect 5,000 non-perishable food items by Dec. 17, Principal Blaine Conley will have to live up to his end of the bargain.
According to Tippecanoe Valley School Board President Bryan Murphy Monday night, Conley's end of the deal includes serving food in the cafeteria, singing Christmas carols and dressing up in an undetermined costume. One year, after the elementary collected more than their goal, Conley dressed up as Hannah Montana.Murphy told the other board members the school was still a little shy on their goal, so he encouraged them to help the students out.
All the food items collected typically go to Helping Hands food pantry in Mentone, and then is distributed to the less fortunate in the Valley community.
