First, the really good news.
Kosciusko County GOP Chair Mike Ragan said he’s feeling much better after having two stents inserted into two arteries.
Surgery came just days after the Nov. 6 election. Ragan said he had felt fatigued and short of breath and checked with a doctor after the election, and was immediately hospitalized.
While sitting in the hospital, though, Ragan was less than pleased to learn of an assessment of the Wayne Township board race that appeared in the Nov. 10 Potpourri.
In it, Potpourri pointed to the large number of straight ticket voters for part of the reason for the outcome in the township board race, which pitted three Democrats against three Republicans, including Bruce Woodward.
Ragan rightfully points out that voters had to specifically choose candidates for all township board races and could not make that part of the straight ticket option.
Ragan also contends that his denunciation of Woodward ahead of election day did have an impact, even though Woodward finished third and won a seat on the township board.
Woodward finished about 200 votes less than the second-place finisher.
Ragan said he believes his pre-election criticism made an impact.
And despite his anger after Woodward endorsed Democrat Shari Benyousky over Republican Jeanie Stackhouse for Wayne Township trustee, Ragan said he’s pleased that Woodward still topped the three Democrat candidates.
“It did send a signal and he got the message,” Ragan said.
TIME WILL TELL – Republican State Sen. Eric Bassler says he will be filing legislation to make the change to the Central Time Zone after three siblings were killed at a bus stop near Talma in October.
Two 6-year-old boys and their older sister were hit by 24-year-old Alyssa Shepherd, who told police she did not recognize the school bus that was stopped with its safety arm extended.
The annual time change came one week after the Tippy Valley tragedy.
Bassler believes kids will be more noticeable to drivers if they are waiting for the bus in daylight.
The Indy Star reports the bill is one of two that he plans to file related to school bus safety.
Bassler represents District 39, which is west of Bloomington.
Moving Up – Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb has been elected to serve as the 2019 policy chairman for the Republican Governor Association.
The group met this week in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Celeb Lookout – Indiana University basketball standout Kent Benson attended Tuesday’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Gala in Winona Lake.
Benson was named Indiana High School Mr. Basketball in 1973, ranks third in all-time rebounds with IU and spent 11 years in the NBA with four teams.
