A local gunsmith was released from Kosciusko Community Hospital after being treated Friday night for accidentally shooting himself in the foot.
Jack D. Simison, 72, of North CR 175E, Warsaw, was working in the basement of his home, where he operates Jack's Gun Shop, when the incident occurred about 8:30 p.m.
Simison told police that he was repairing a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun and was working the upper slide, testing the extractor, when the gun fired. Simison had loaded the gun's magazine with 10 live rounds prior to conducting the test, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report.
The discharged round entered Simison's left foot at the inside of the ankle and exited through the center of the bottom of the foot. He told police that he made his way upstairs and his wife drove him to the hospital. After undergoing surgery, Simison was released from KCH.
