Eight people were injured in a four-vehicle accident on U.S. 30W near CR 150W at 2:40 p.m. Friday.

The semi driver who caused the accident, John Hill, 48, of Joliet, Ill., was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and booked into Kosciusko County Jail.

Hill told police he was westbound on U.S. 30 when he reportedly failed to see the vehicles in front of him stop. He fled the scene of the accident and was apprehended near the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 19 after he was followed by a Warsaw city employee, who contacted police by radio.

Hill's semi hit a vehicle driven by Michael Vandenbossche, 66, Rochester. Four people in Vandenbossche's vehicle were injured.

Vandenbossche's vehicle was pushed into a car driven by Joseph Hanenkratt, 32, of Hobart. There were no injuries in Hanenkratt's car.

The third vehicle in the chain-reaction collision was driven by Stanley McDaniel, 42, of Warsaw. Four people in McDaniel's car were injured.

The eight people who were injured were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where they were treated and released.

The accident was investigated by Warsaw Police Department.
