WINONA LAKE- Swimmers, bikers, and runners will take over Winona Lake Saturday.
The expected 700 athletes will be participating in the 18th Annual Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Triathlon from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
Craig Allebach, town coordinator, advises motorists to be cautious of bikers and runners.
The bikers will be on Kings Highway and Pierceton Road, with police personnel directing traffic.
The run starts in Winona Lake Park and goes to Southtown Addition so motorists are advised of runners in the addition.
Allebach said 12th Street to Columbia Street will be closed from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday to accommodate the bikers and runners. The optimist club placed brightly colored signs throughout town last week informing motorists to be aware of biker and runner traffic Saturday morning in the town.
The triathlon includes a 1/4-mile swim in Winona Lake, a 13.8-mile bike ride from Winona Lake to Pierceton, and a 3.52-mile run from the Winona Lake Park to Southtown Addition and back to the park.
The triathlon has been selected to be a special qualifier race for the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship.
