3 Injured In Crash, Including A Nappanee Man Who May Have Had Heart Attack

Three people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Friday in Elkhart County, including a Nappanee man who may have suffered a heart attack.
According to an Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office crash news release, at about 12:51 p.m. Friday, April 10, Thames Osborne, 76, Nappanee, was traveling south on CR 7, approaching Ind. 119, in a 2010 Jeep Wrangler and failed to stop at the posted stop sign. The Jeep Wrangler entered the intersection of Ind. 119 and CR 7 and collided with a 2009 Toyota Prius, driven by Jose Avelar, 57, Goshen.
Avelar had been traveling northeast on Ind. 119, approaching CR 7, when the Jeep Wrangler disregarded the southbound stop sign and hit the Prius, according to the crash news release.
A 2010 Ford Escape, driven by Kate Crowder, 43, Nappanee, was stationary on CR 7, facing north at Ind. 119, when the Jeep Wrangler entered the intersection without stopping, hitting the Prius, then rebounded and collided with the front bumper of the Escape.
Osborne was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment of a possible heart attack and a suspected ruptured diaphragm, according to the release.
Jose Avelar, and a passenger, Ana Avelar, 61, were also taken to Elkhart General Hospital for general pain and possible fractures.
Crowder did not report any injuries.
The Jeep Wrangler sustained heavy passenger side damage. The Prius sustained heavy front-end damage, while the Escape sustained minor front-end damage.
Everyone involved in the three-vehicle accident were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, the report states.
The incident remains under investigation.
