Last year, contestants in the First Annual Community Quiz Bowl were asked such questions as: What three towns were vying to become the Kosciusko County seat?
On Feb. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Warsaw Community High School Career Center Gym, contestants will again be given questions to test their knowledge, or lack thereof, during the Second Annual Community Quiz Bowl.
Also known as the "Battle of the Brains," the public is invited to cheer their favorite teams. Admission is free.
"We're doing this to help the teachers do special projects," said Cathy Teghtmeyer, a member of the Warsaw Community Foundation for Public Education Inc.
Money raised through the event will help the foundation sponsor the Partnership Program, which links local businesses with area schools; the Mini-Grant Program, which provides funding for special classroom projects; the Fall Arts and Crafts Show; and the A-1 Program, which recognizes students in grades nine to 12 who earn straight A's throughout the school year.
The foundation, a not-for-profit corporation, has a 21-member board comprising local business and educational representatives.
Last year, a Warsaw Community Schools team won the traveling trophy with score of 61 out of a possible 75. Members were Adrian Coplen, Dan Coplen, Jeannette Harvuot, Jim Harvuot and Dick Rooker. They were sponsored by Keith Reinholt and Reinholt's Town Square Furniture.
"The challenge (this year)," said Teghtmeyer, "is to beat them."
Last year 26 teams raised more than $2,600 for the foundation. Each team paid $100 to compete in the event.
Teghtmeyer said, "We welcome the community to come and cheer on their favorite team."
Teams participating this year are ABC Industries, Bowen Center, city of Warsaw, Dekko Heating Technologies, DePuy, R.R. Donnelley and Son, Explorer Van, Grace College & Seminary, Grossnickle Eye Center, Kosciusko County Courthouse employees, Lake City Bank, Medtronic Sofamor Danek, Miller's Health Systems, Ramada Plaza, Tri Kappa, Warsaw Community Schools, Warsaw-Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce, Times-Union, Warsaw Women's Center and Zimmer.
