The death of a 23-year-old Warsaw woman is being attributed to Methadone by local officials.
According to a press release from the Warsaw Police Department, the WPD and the Kosciusko County Coroner's office have completed an investigation into the March 30th death of Khrysta Nichole Dove. After completing an autopsy and subsequent toxicology testing and review, the death is considered an accidental overdose due to multiple drug toxicity, specifically Methadone.
"The police investigation found that the illegal abuse of these prescription drugs were a direct result in Ms. Dove's death," according to the press release. "Police and Kosciusko County Coroner John Sadler continue to warn and advise the public that the use and abuse of prescription drugs not legally prescribed and supervised by a medical doctor are dangerous and can be lethal. The body metabolizes Methadone at a much slower pace than most medications, and when combined with alcohol and/or other drugs, can be a deadly combination.
"Kosciusko County, as well as state and nationwide (law enforcement), continue to see a rise in similar deaths in the recent past, attributed to illegal abuse of Methadone and other prescription drugs. Officials warn against the supplying of prescription drugs to those that don't have a legitimate medical purpose for them," according to the press release.
At 10:20 a.m. March 30, Warsaw Police and Fire departments, along with Multi-Township EMS, responded to an apartment at 600 N. Lake St., Warsaw, after receiving a call about an unresponsive woman.
CPR was initiated, and Dove was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy then was scheduled at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center in Fort Wayne.
