Police apprehended a former Syracuse man and confiscated marijuana and cash Tuesday evening after a pursuit from north of Pierceton almost to the Wabash County line.
Derek D. Bowser, 21, of Indianapolis and formerly of the Dewart Lake area, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 6:55 p.m. He was charged with possession of marijuana and was released after posting $2,000 bond.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department press release, Bowser was located by a member of the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force in a vehicle north of Pierceton after information was received that Bowser allegedly was in possession of a large amount of marijuana.
Bowser then left the area southbound on Ind. 13, with an undercover officer following him in an unmarked vehicle. A traffic stop was made when marked police vehicles were able to intercept Bowser's vehicle at CR 1200S.
A police dog from North Manchester Police Department was used to search Bowser's vehicle and the exercise uncovered about 4 pounds of a substance believed to be marijuana and $3,600 in cash. The street value of the confiscated marijuana is estimated at $6,400, police said.
Also assisting the KCDTF and the KCSD were officers from South Whitley Police Department.
