NORTH WEBSTER - A Milford man was arrested late Friday after police witnessed an alleged drug transaction outside a North Webster business. Another suspect fled the scene.

Ryan Allen Park, 20, of 209 Schaffer St., Milford, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on preliminary charges of possession of a narcotic drug, battery on a law enforcement officer and two counts of resisting or fleeing law enforcement. He was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond.

According to North Webster Town Marshal Greg Church, officers saw money being exchanged between Park and another man outside Webster Quick Service on Ind. 13. When police approached the men to question the suspicious activity, both men attempted to flee, but Park was detained.

A scuffle ensued while police tried to take Park into custody and Deputy Marshal Tony Clark was struck in the face during the incident, Church said. Clark suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

Park was pepper sprayed so that police could subdue him and, once in custody, a controlled substance was found in Park's possession. The substance will be tested for a determination as to what it is. Church declined to release what he believes the substance to be.

Park was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and to be decontaminated from the pepper spray before he was booked into the jail.
