2-Year-Old’s Death Wants New Lawyer

Posted
A man accused of killing a 2-year-old girl is requesting a new attorney.

Christopher Grimmett, 30, filed the motion to dismiss counsel Thursday  in Kosciusko Circuit Court.

Grimmett was assigned local attorney Jay Rigdon as a public defender after a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf.

“My counsel is not fighting for my case. I believe he is not properly defending my rights,” Grimmett said in the motion.

Judge Michael Reed set a hearing on the motion for 3 p.m. June 5.

Police say Grimmett admitted to beating Adalin?Stamper  to death and burying her in the backyard of his brother’s house in Warsaw Nov. 11.

Grimmett has been incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail since his arrest in November. He is awaiting a trial on a murder charge and has no bond.

Previously, Judge Reed ordered Grimmett to undergo psychiatric evaluations in the case.

Rigdon declined to comment on the motion.
