2 Warsaw, 2 Wawasee Robotics Teams Moving On To State Competition

WINONA LAKE – Twenty-one teams from area schools competed Saturday in the second annual FIRST Lego® League tournament at Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center, Grace College, Winona Lake. Only the top four teams got to advance to state competition at IPFW Dec. 14. According to official results, moving on will be two Edgewood Middle School teams, “Tsunami” and “Survivors,” and Wawasee Middle School’s team 2 and team 3. Edgewood students on the Tsunami team are Alexie Day, Ella Knight, Lucas Harvey, Chloe Damron, Joelle Messenger, Rebekah Mesman and Jack Rhoades. They won the Champion’s Award, beating the other 20 teams overall in the contest. An Edgewood team also won the competition last year. The other Edgewood team, the Survivors, moving on to state includes Brooklyn Lyon, Paige Spratt, Lachlan Lennox, Larsen Angus, Rachel Smith, Bayly Dobbins and Jack Tucker. They won second place overall. Students on the Wawasee Warrior 2 team includes Zac Avery, Zac Hunter, Carson Hunter and Shae Henn. On Warrior 3 are Braxton Studebaker, Jack Collins, Ryan Zorn and Clay Kelsheimer. Winning in the other award categories were: mechanical design, Lego Illusions from Washington STEM Academy, Warsaw; programming, Edgewood Avalanche, Warsaw; strategy and innovation, Robotics Cats, Whitko Middle School, Larwill; inspiration, Warrior 2, Wawasee Middle School, Syracuse; teamwork, Edgewood Tornadoes, Warsaw; gracious professionalism, Lego Boss Bots, Washington STEM, Warsaw; research, Robotic Fury, Washington STEM; innovative solution, Warrior 3, Wawasee Middle School, Syracuse; presentation, St. John’s Eagles, St. John Lutheran, Kendallville; robot performance second place, Warrior 3, Wawasee Middle School, Syracuse; and robot performance first place, Edgewood Tornadoes, Warsaw.
