Two county vehicles, a sheriff's car and a police car, were set on fire early Sunday morning. Both were ruled arson.
The first, a spare Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department patrol car, was seen on fire at Northside Auto. A passerby, Timothy McKinley, reported the fire to the KCSD at 2:03 a.m.
KCSD Corp. Don Wiesehan, first at the scene, found both front windows broken and all doors unlocked. Wiesehan extinguished the fire with a portable extinguisher.
Damage is estimated at $5,000-$10,000.
Less than an hour later, a second vehicle fire was called in. A Warsaw Police Department car, parked at an officer's residence in Burket, was reported by a neighbor, Doug Hollen, to be on fire at 2:56 a.m.
The officer was awakened and extinguished the fire himself with a portable extinguisher.
The arsonist apparently entered the car by breaking the front passenger side window. The fire started on the front passenger side seat.
Damage is estimated at $25,000.
The fires are under investigation by the sheriff's department.
