2 In Custody After Police Chase Through 2 CountiesA Nappanee man was taken into custody after leading police on a chase and then ramming into a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department squad car Friday. Jeffery Uriah Mast, 25, and KCSD Detective Shane Bucher were taken to the hospital. Bucher was taken from the scene by Parkview Whitley EMS to Kosciusko Community Hospital for standard evaluation. Mast also was taken to KCH after he told officers he had ingested methamphetamine during the pursuit, according to a news release from KCSD. Bucher has been released from the hospital, and Mast is still being evaluated and is in fair/stable condition at KCH. A passenger in Mast’s vehicle, Pamela Sue McGreevy, 50, Pierceton, was taken into custody and taken to the Kosciusko County Jail, where she was arrested and preliminarily charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, according to the news release. Her bond was set at $5,250. Mast will be arrested and preliminarily charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, fleeing and/or resisting arrest and residential burglary after being released from the hospital, according to the release. Officers are seeking additional charges against Mast related to the chase with officials in Whitley County. The police chase began shortly after 10 a.m. Friday when Pierceton Town Marshal Tim Sammons spotted a potential suspect vehicle involved in a residential burglary Thursday in the Nappanee area. Sammons and Bucher attempted to perform a traffic stop on the black Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Mast, at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Ind. 13, but the suspect vehicle fled into Whitley County. Columbia City police and Whitley County ?Sheriff’s Department attempted to place spike strips along U.S. 30, but the pickup turned onto Lincoln Highway, entering Columbia City, according to the release. The pursuit then traveled south onto Line Street, then to Ind. 205, where the suspect’s vehicle left the travel portion of the road and went into a field due to a construction road closure. Bucher’s squad car was struck by the vehicle as they were in the field, then both vehicles re-entered Ind. 205. Bucher positioned his car in front of ?Mast’s truck, and Mast accelerated and struck the rear portion of Bucher’s car, disabling both vehicles, police said.
