SYRACUSE - Two elementary school students face charges after allegedly destroying the interior of a mobile home at Dewart Lake.

The 6-year-old girl and 8-year-old girl were preliminarily charged with criminal mischief and released to their mothers' custody.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, the mother of the younger girl saw her daughter and a neighbor girl coming out of the summer residence of another neighbor about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Yet another neighbor, who watches the residence during the winter, was contacted by the kindergartener's mother because she was concerned about the children being in the mobile home and wanted to make sure no damage was done.

What was discovered inside was "shocking," according to information provided to police.

The girls allegedly emptied every cupboard in the kitchen of the residence and all of the dishes were found broken on the floor. Ketchup and chocolate syrup were squirted on the beds and walls in the home, pictures and lamps were broken, flour was dumped onto beds and wall paper was cut. It is estimated the girls were inside the residence for less than an hour.
