1 Hurt In 4-Vehicle Crash On U.S. 30?Near PiercetonPIERCETON – One driver was injured in a four-vehicle collision Thursday afternoon near Pierceton.
Gerald Bishop, 74, Fort Wayne, complained of pain to the lower arm and elbow and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital for treatment. The other three drivers did not report any injuries, according to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department report.
Bishop was eastbound on U.S. 30 in a 2011 Jeep Cherokee. He reportedly did not see traffic was not moving.
Stopped and backed up in the left-hand lane of U.S. 30 due to construction were Ronald Blanton, 45, Pierceton, in a 2010 Ford F150; Stephen Elsner, 28, Warsaw, in a 2016 Ford Escape; and Samantha Benton, 24, Fort Wayne, in a 2015 Chevy Equinox.
Blanton said that Bishop’s Jeep was not going to stop so Blanton attempted to move his vehicle into the grassy area of the median. Bishop’s vehicle hit the rear of Blanton’s Ford. Bishop continued on and hit Elsner’s Escape, causing it to hit Benton’s vehicle.
Bishop’s vehicle had front-end damage; Blanton, rear-end damage; Elsner, front and rear damage; and Benton’s Equinox had rear-end damage.
Total damage was estimated at $50,000 to $100,000.
