MENTONE - Zula F. French Pyle, 100, of 406 W. Harrison St., Mentone, died at 4:15 p.m. Nov. 24, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw. She and her family moved to Mentone in 1964.

She was born Oct. 9, 1910, in Waynetown, Montgomery County, to Willie and Bertha Henthorn French. On April 8, 1933, in Veedersburg, she married W. Ernest Pyle, who died Oct. 28, 1985.

She was her husband's assistant in the treasurer's office in Fountain County. She also had worked at Teel's Restaurant, Mentone, as well as owning and operating the Camellia Court Motel in Hawkinsville, Ga. She was an excellent pianist, seamstress and cook. She also wrote letters to soldiers in every war starting with World War I to the present. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Cynthia (and spouse David) Howell, Crown Point; a son, Larry (and spouse Sue) Pyle, Mentone; five grandchildren: Lou Anne Guilford, Lisa Daer, Kevin and Brian Pyle and Stephen Howell; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Hubert French, and granddaughter, Jennifer Pyle Witham.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Waynetown.

Calling is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, Mentone.
