Zoners Set Conditions For Syracuse Business

Posted

SYRACUSE - A problem of nonconforming use in a commercial zone was addressed Thursday by the Syracuse Board of Zoning Appeals.

The property is at 912 S. Huntington St. and is owned by Patrick Higgins, Higgins Sports and Lawn Inc.

Board members said there seems to have been a lapse of communication between the previous owner and Higgins about the zoning of the property.

The previous owner received a zoning exception including several conditions that were to be tied to the property, but apparently failed to inform Higgins of those conditions.

During the meeting, the following conditions were placed on the property: All inventory is to be in good, salable condition; a minimum of six parking spaces are to be maintained on the west side of the building; the existing fence is to be maintained; all outside storage of parts and vehicles there for repair are to be kept behind the fence; no customer parking or display will be allowed in the right of way; any and all minor service is to be done inside the existing structure or the fenced area; granting of this exception is for the current business owner, Higgins Sports and Lawn Inc.; a maximum of six parking spaces or 55 feet of display will be allowed beginning at the south end of the property and running north on the west side of the building.

The conditions were formed into a motion and passed by the board.

A decision was made to pursue violations at 1005 S. Huntington St. There are conditions in place that, again, the new owner of the business apparently does not know to follow.

The board set an executive session for 7 p.m. Aug. 30.

Members present were Jon Brookmyer, Gus Duehmig, Larry Copen, Andy Kitson and Steve Sharp.
