According to a press release from Standard & Poor's, Zimmer Holdings will be added to the S&P 500 index after the close of trading Aug. 6.
Zimmer Holdings, currently a unit of Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., Warsaw, makes medical devices. Zimmer will replace Timken Co., a Canton, Ohio, steel-and-bearings manufacturer, when Bristol-Myers Squibb spins off Zimmer to its shareholders.
Zimmer Holdings will be added to the S&P 500 GICS Health Care Equipment sub-industry group and the Health Care (Medical Products and Supplies) industry group.
