Zimmer Holdings Inc., a leader in the orthopedics industry, today announced it has purchased the former Kimble Glass facility in Warsaw's Boggs Industrial Park. Zimmer will use the approximately 130,000 square feet of space to relocate and consolidate certain existing Warsaw functions and to accommodate potential future manufacturing of new products.
Ray Elliott, Zimmer chairman, president and CEO, said, "Zimmer and the orthopedic industry continue to grow, and we are pleased to acquire this facility, which will relieve office crowding in some of our departments and accommodate potential future growth. The facility also will serve as the headquarters for the Zimmer Trauma Division, which was formed last year as a separate business unit. This relocation from our existing Boggs building will further allow the Trauma Division to concentrate its focus, in a team environment, on growing Zimmer's presence in the trauma market."
Zimmer expects to complete renovations and begin occupying the facility by the end of 2006. The company said it will invest $5 million to purchase and upgrade the facility.
With the acquisition of the Kimble Glass facility, Zimmer now occupies or has under construction over 1 million square feet in Boggs Industrial Park, and approximately 1.3 million square feet in total Warsaw-area facilities. In late 2004, the company announced plans for a 99,000-square-foot Research & Development Center, which currently is under construction and also is scheduled for completion at the end of 2006. Also, the new Zimmer Hotel will be completed this year in downtown Warsaw. Total Zimmer employment in the Warsaw area is approximately 2,200.
