FORT WAYNE – This Saturday, The Fort Wayne Philharmonic shares the Masterworks stage with the Fort Wayne Youth Symphony. This marks the first time the two groups have played side by side as part of The Phil’s flagship series. The two generations of musicians will collaborate on Rossini’s “Overture to La gazza ladra,” better known as “The Thieving Magpie” to English-speaking audiences. The piece, which premiered to massive acclaim and ovation in 1817, has delighted audiences young and old over the past 200 years, and serves as the perfect canvas for this artistic collaboration. “The Thieving Magpie” anchors a full slate of classical music from The Phil. The program features Schubert’s “Overture to Rosamunde,” Wagner’s “Prelude to Act 1” from Lohengrin and “Overture to The Flying Dutchman” and “Respighi’s Fountains of Rome.” “Beauty in the Breakdown,” featuring The Phil and the Fort Wayne Youth Symphony, starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Embassy Theatre. Tickets start at $17 and are available by visiting or calling The Phil Box Office at 260-481-0777 or online at fwphil.org
