NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester Church of the Brethren Youth Group will perform the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” Jan. 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Both performances will be preceded by a dessert buffet from 6 to 6:45 p.m. “Jesus Christ Superstar” was written in 1970 and first performed on Broadway in 1971. The music was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber while the book and lyrics were written by Tim Rice. The musical is loosely based on the Gospels’ account of the last week of Jesus’s life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem and ending with the crucifixion. “Jesus Christ Superstar” is presented in cooperation with R&H Theatricals, New York City, N.Y. The cast includes Rainer Borgmann, Connor Eichenauer, Zach Shenefield, David Fahs Brown, Lucas Schilling, Emily Lynn, Max Karg, Karly Eichenauer, Tahnee Fuentes, Corrie Osborne, Eli Shaum, Hannah Thomas, Ben Reichenbach, Jonah Shenefield, Chloe Leckrone and Levi Lehman. The band for the performance is under the direction of Marilyn Mason. Admission to the musical is by free will donation. No tickets or reservations are necessary. After expenses, donations will be split between the Manchester Early Learning Center Building Fund and travel expenses for youth to attend the Christian Citizenship Seminar in New York City.
