Staff Report-
The Young Entrepreneurs Academy is now accepting applications for fall classes for students ages 11 to 18 who are interested in launching their own real businesses. YEA! is an enrichment program that transforms local middle and high school students into real, confident entrepreneurs, according to a provided press release. Through its 30-week hands-on classes, students in grades sixth through 12th generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans, pitch to a panel of investors, and launch fully formed businesses from the ground up, with instruction and inspiration from local teachers and business leaders. Students will own and can continue running their businesses after graduation from the program. YEA! is ideal for creative, energetic students interested in entrepreneurship and who have the drive to start their own small businesses. Founded in Rochester, N.Y., in 2014, the Academy serves students in more than 100 communities across the U.S. More than 4,000 YEA! graduates nationwide have started over 3,000 businesses – contributing to economic growth, and offering students the opportunity to gain leadership and public speaking skills, along with real-world experience with accounting, business law, web development, marketing and sales. In addition, the YEA! Saunders Scholars national college scholarship competition is open exclusively to YEA! students across America. Classes meet weekly after school through the academic year. Applications are now being accepted. The selection process is competitive and open to all middle and high school students. Students and parents can visit www.yeausa.org to select a nearby Academy location and to apply by Sept. 30. With support from Sam’s Club and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, YEA! is expanding to additional locations nationally for the 2015-16 academic year.
