York Earns Rank of Eagle

Posted
Boy Scout Troop 776, sponsored by the Warsaw Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held a Court of Honor recently to award Nathan York the rank of Eagle Scout.

He is the son of Laura (and the late Andy) York, Warsaw.

The Eagle Scout award is the highest rank achieved in the Scouting program. A young man completes three ranks requiring at least two years of participation working up to the Eagle Scout rank. He must earn 21 merit badges including Citizenship, First Aid, Fitness and Emergency Preparedness and serve in leadership positions.

The Eagle Scout candidate then must conceive, plan and implement a community service project requiring at least 40 manhours. York’s project was GPS mapping with corresponding pictures of headstones in the Syracuse Cemetery in June 2011.

His project involved 500 headstones and took more than 250 man hours to complete. It is included in a larger project involving the county and will be available online at a future date.

Only about 10 percent of all Boy Scouts will obtain the rank of Eagle Scout.
