Kosciusko Community YMCA has announced a $1.5 million pledge received from Biomet Inc.
The gift will support the construction of a new YMCA facility to be built on U.S. 30 and Mariner Drive.
The gift allows the YMCA to continue to fulfill its mission to provide life-enriching programs for the residents of Kosciusko County, according to information provided.
“The generous gift from Biomet is so greatly appreciated, especially at the early stages of our fundraising efforts,” said Chad Zaucha, YMCA CEO.  “We are hopeful that other businesses, individuals, partners and foundations will share the vision to build a new YMCA so we can serve thousands more people in our community.”
Initial plans for the new YMCA include a health and wellness center, lap pool, instructional warm water pool, multi-purpose gathering spaces, a youth and teen center, a double gymnasium and outdoor space for day camp.
While YMCA officials hope to open the new facility in early 2015, the size, scope and timing of the  facility will ultimately be determined by funding donated.
“At Biomet, we believe strongly in giving back to our community. That’s why we wanted to support the Y, which is committed to serving the needs of our neighbors,” said Biomet President and CEO Jeff Binder. “This gift to the YMCA is an opportunity to touch the lives of families and individuals who seek healthier lifestyles, and for children who need a positive place to learn and grow. A strong and vibrant Y will ensure a thriving Kosciusko County.”
