Kosciusko Community YMCA is celebrating Arts Week Oct. 1 to 4.
The YMCA invites children, teens and their families to attend this free, week-long community event that showcases the talents of artists through various forms of expression.
Arts Week is an initiative of the YMCA that promotes the power of art to educate, inspire and connect the entire community, and is celebrated at YMCAs nationwide every October in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month.
During Arts Week, the Kosciusko Community YMCA will host a variety of activities for youth to explore art and “let out” their creative expression.
Activities taking place all week will include sidewalk chalk drawing, a poem everyone can add a line to, and a big roll of paper in the hallway for anyone to doodle on.
On Oct. 1 Lauri Hoover of the Island Weaver will be at the YMCA from 5 to 6 p.m. to create tie-dye T-shirts for free.
Kathleen Boyts from Creative Fish Gallery will lead kids in creating a funky fish CD craft from 4 to 5 p.m. for a small fee. Please pre-register for this activity by Sept. 28.
On Oct. 2 from 4 to 5 p.m. Deena Cutshall from Pottery Bayou will be offering mugs or tiles for kids ages 6 to 14 to paint for a small fee. Pre-register for this activity by Sept. 28. From 5 to 6 p.m.
Grace College drama students will be leading some improv activities in the youth center.
From 9:30 to 10 a.m. on Oct. 3 Warsaw Community Public Library will be visiting the babysitting area for story hour using rhyme, song and stories.
From 5 to 6 p.m. kids will get to try Zumbatomic, a high-energy fitness-party using the latest music. This class is free, but people are encouraged to pre-register.
On Oct. 4 kids will get to create their own monster self portrait in the youth center from 4 to 7 p.m. The movie Monsters Inc. will be playing from 5 to 7 p.m.
