Thomas Garland has been hired to serve as the executive director of the Kosciusko Community YMCA.
Dennis Cultice, president of the YMCA board of directors, said Garland has more than eight years of experience in serving the YMCA. Most recently, he served the YMCA as senior membership/program director of the Tuscarawas County YMCA located in Dover, Ohio, for four years. Before that he was responsible for youth development at the Racine (Wis.) YMCA for four years.
Garland also has background with the Boys & Girls Club and served as recreation director of a community.
Cultice said, "With the very tight labor market, we were blessed with many very qualified, experienced, and capable YMCA candidates which made the selection most challenging." A YMCA selection committee was made up of local community leaders, board members, and past board presidents.
"We are pleased with our outcome and that we completed this process ahead of schedule," Cultice said.
"Tom Garland's tenure as serving in the number two position at the Tuscarawas County YMCA resulted in increased membership of 36 percent and doubled corporate membership while improving and increasing programs to its members and assisting with a major expansion of their YMCA," said Chuck Whitcraft, YMCA board vice president.
"We are excited about Tom's background and experience, the leadership, vision and enthusiasm he will bring in working with our members, corporate members, and his involvement in our community," Cultice said.
The Kosciusko Community YMCA has more than 6,500 members and offers programs for the entire family, including gymnastics, youth sports, fitness, school-age childcare, summer camp, teen special events, water exercise, swim lessons, birthday parties, weightlifting, volleyball, basketball, and swimming.
Garland and his wife, Jane, have four children. They will be relocating to Warsaw. Garland will begin work at the Y on Nov. 20.
"My wife, family, and I are looking forward to meeting the Y members, becoming involved in the community, and continuing the solid foundation of the Y", said Garland.
The YMCA is United Way Agency.
