Kosciusko Community YMCA executive director Steve Jungbauer has resigned.
During an interview this morning, David Kolbe, Kosciusko Community YMCA board of directors president, told the Times-Union Jungbauer's resignation was effective Tuesday.
The Times-Union called the Y this morning and requested to speak to Jungbauer for comments, but all questions were referred to Kolbe.
Kolbe said Jungbauer indicated his desire to resign to him Saturday, and the board approved Jungbauer's resignation during its meeting Tuesday.
Kolbe said he contacted the Y's executive management committee last weekend to inform them of Jungbauer's intentions to resign.
Jungbauer would have served seven years as executive director effective in November, according to Kolbe.
Kolbe said Jungbauer informed him his reason for resigning is to pursue a special interest this fall, which he did not specify to Kolbe.
Kolbe also said Jungbauer stated his reasoning for resigning is to recover from his Achilles tendon surgery.
A search to fill Jungbauer's position will begin in the next 10 days, with plans to have a new executive director hired in the next 90 days, according to Kolbe.
The Y's board of directors will work with YMCA USA, a national organization, to conduct the executive director search.
Jungbauer will assist with the transition as the Y searches for a new executive director.
The Y will work with a neighboring YMCA that will provide management assistance on an interim basis until an executive director is hired.
Kolbe said Jungbauer has contributed a great deal to the Y and will be missed.
"Steve has been a tremendous contribution to the success of the YMCA and we will provide him a positive reference in his next endeavors," Kolbe said.
The Times-Union asked Kolbe if the YMCA board of directors is still considering a new location to build a Y.
"We continue to engage in finding the proper place and the key is providing a location that serves the best interests of the community," Kolbe said.
