NORTH WEBSTER - Another organization, the Kosciusko Community YMCA, just became part of the North Webster Community Center.
The lease agreement was signed by NWCC board members and YMCA board members Tuesday.
The Y joins Lakeland Youth Center, the North Webster/Tippecanoe Town-ship Library and Senior Adults members as occupants when the facility is opened to the public in the fall.
Lakeland Youth Center already provides basketball, baseball conditioning and an intramural schedule.
The YMCA serves more than 500 North Webster residents, according to YMCA director Tom Garland.
The Y will have rooms for exercise and classes and will use the gymnasium.
Presently more than 170 registered walkers take advantage of the one-ninth-mile "track" inside the building. There is a contest to see who can "walk" the 141 miles to Indianapolis in time for the Indianapolis 500 race.
Meeting rooms are often used by various groups.
"The building has put a real sparkle in the community," said town council president Kay Andrews. "Things will get even better here, and it's always been good."
The NWCC board has raised $366,000 toward its $375,000 goal. These amounts will be used as matching dollars for foundation grant applications.
Renovation is scheduled to begin in earnest May 1, with a November completion date.
