Wrestling Sectionals: Warsaw's Hatch Stays Unbeaten, Three-Peats As Sectional Champ

PLYMOUTH – Warsaw junior Kyle Hatch remained undefeated at 36-0, joining Wawasee’s Braxton Alexander and Tristin Ponsler and Triton’s Gage Waddle as champions from Saturday’s Plymouth Wrestling Sectional. Hatch is now a three-time sectional champion, winning this year at 138 pounds. Thirty-one of his 36 wins this season have come by fall, setting a new school record in the process. He will be joined at the Rochester Regional by four Tiger teammates who finished second; Gustavo Cartajena (106), Luis Juarez (182), Andrew Brock (220) and Alec Haines (285). The Tigers took sixth overall in the sectional, Alexander (113) improved his record to 29-5 and Ponsler (132) moved to 31-3 this season for Wawasee. Also advancing for the Warriors are second-place finishers Zac McKee (160) and Jeremiah Dilley (195), and bronze medalists Ricardo Romo (106) and Alejandro Castro (182). Wawasee’s team finished third in the sectional. Waddle takes a 35-2 season record at 160 pounds into Saturday’s regional. Other Trojans earning a trip to Rochester are Malachi Greene, second at 120 pounds, and fourth-place finishers Bryce Swihart (113), Adonic Salinas (126), Nick Harker (145) and John Salinas (182). Squires Advance Nine Wrestlers PERU – Nine Manchester Squire wrestlers earned a return trip to Peru by finishing fourth or better in the sectional Saturday. Quintin Moore was the lone Squire to win a sectional championship, winning at 170 pounds. Runners-up were Delton Moore (145), Wade France (160) and Landon Tharp (220). Bronze medalists were Remington Trick (138) and Collin Meggison (152), with Jackson Mathais (120), Brandon Fortner (126) and Trey Addair (132) advancing with fourth-place finishes. Manchester was third in the team standings, behind Peru and Maconaquah. The regional meet will start at 9 a.m. Saturday in Peru.
Alma Advances For Wildcats HUNTERTOWN – Whitko junior Dylan Alma finished fourth in the 170-pound class at the Carroll Sectional, and was the only Wildcat wrestler to advance to the regional at Carroll next week.
