ATWOOD - A Monday morning accident on U.S. 30 resulted in the closure of eastbound lanes for approximately an hour.

Angela M. Thompson, 36, of 3505 CR 900S, Kewana, was traveling southbound on CR 800W and came to a stop at the intersection of U.S.30 at about 8:05 a.m. She crossed westbound traffic into the median, but failed to see a semi driven by Ronald Martin Lytle, 56, of 807 S. River Ave., Sunbury, Pa., who was east bound. Thompson drove into the fuel tanks of the truck, causing the tanks to rupture.

Thompson's two sisters, Erica Mifflin, 16, and Teresa Mifflin, 15, same address as Thompson, were passengers in her car. All three showed no visible injuries, but were taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital as a precautionary measure. Lytle was not injured in the accident.

The Kosciusko County Emergency Management Team was called to clean up the spilled diesel fuel.

The semi sustained damage estimated between $5,000 to $10,000, and Thompson's car was totaled.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Kosciusko County Emergency Management Team, Indiana State Police, Atwood Fire Department, Etna Green Fire Department and the Multi-Township EMS service.
