WPD To Use E-Tickets

Posted
In a move to streamline how officers give tickets, the Warsaw Police Department will begin using a system known as E-Ticket.

The Warsaw Police Department patrol division, along with most other WPD officers, went through training Tuesday to learn the Indiana Electronic Citation and Warning System, more commonly known as E-Ticket.Mark Genovese, from the Indiana Supreme Court Judicial Technology and Automation Committee, was on hand to provide training in two different sessions to officers.

"There's a time factor involved," said WPD Lt. Kip Shuter of the E-Ticket system. "There's also a safety factor with officers spending less time on the side of the road."

In 2007, Shuter applied for funds through the Kosciusko Coalition on Drug Education. WPD was awarded $5,800, which will allow the department to fund scanners, thermal printers, printer mounts, cables and paper for eight patrol vehicles.

The E-Ticket system allows officers to scan a driver's license and vehicle registration and print out a ticket in a manner of minutes. It also increases the accuracy of information and cuts down on clerical time.

The WPD will begin using the E-Ticket system within the next three weeks.
