WPD Issues Statement On Drake Price’s PassingOn Friday, honorary police officer Drake Price, 16, unexpectedly died at his home.
Monday, the Warsaw Police Department issued a news release on Price’s passing.
“The Warsaw Police Department has endured a loss to its police family,” the release states, “Our hope and prayers are that Officer Drake knew what a joy and inspiration he had become for all of us. He was a courageous young man who fought valiantly throughout his brain tumor diagnosis.”
Price was diagnosed in February 2017 with super mass craniopharyngioma, basically a tumor about the size of a fist which sat on his optic nerve. It was later discovered he had Moyamoya disease, which is a cerebral arterial disease characterized by constriction of certain arteries at the base of the brain.
On Oct. 25, 2021, the WPD laid to rest Capt. Clay A. Layne after he unexpectedly died. When turning into the cemetery, officers saw Price standing at attention, wearing his uniform shirt and dress hat, saluting Layne and the rest of the officers when passing by him and his family, the release states.
“It is our hope the Price family finds comfort in the light Drake became for our community. He was a true spark of positivity. The Warsaw Police Department will forever be #DRAKESTRONG!”
