10 Years Ago Members of Venture crew 2715 recently took a cross country trek across Wisconsin. The trek began with a three-day stay at the Michigan City Yacht Club as guests of Sea Scout Ship 101. While there, the sea scouts instructed the group in sailing, along with man overboard drills and maneuvering a World War II tug boat around the harbor. They also assisted in policing the “off-limits” area of the lake during an air show. Adults attending were Terry Pelz, Sue Pelz and Terry Halfacre. Youth included Jason Zorn, Andy Halfacre, Kenton Blacksten, Joel Pelz, Erin Pelz, Laura Pelz, Kevin Messmore and Derek Murphy. 25 Years Ago Bowling fans from the Warsaw and surrounding areas, and some as far away as Chicago, got a chance to meet one of the sport’s greatest legends of all time as Earl Anthony spent most of the day here Sunday. Anthony was the guest of honor at Earl Anthony Days sponsored by Gilliam Lanes. Fred and Mike Gilliam had been planning the day’s activities for several weeks and it all paid off as the local establishment was crowded during both the morning and afternoon session. 50 Years Ago An award ceremony Sunday in the new Warsaw High School auditorium will honor 26 teenaged members of the Murphy Medical Center’s volunteer “Candy Stripers” corps. The pins for 50 hours of service will be presented by Dr. Robert D. Dormire, hospital chief of staff. Mrs. Wallace Miller, director of in-service education for the hospital, will cap those Candy Stripers who have served a total of 100 hours. 75 Years Ago Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Paxton, of this city, recently left for an extended motor trip through Arkansas and other southwestern states. The couple expect to be gone about two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. George Ranklin and daughter, Ann, have gone to Calendar, Ont., where they will call to see the Dionne quintuplets.
