Joe Wilkey just brushed off the dust of Africa Thursday and is ready to send things to Mississippi and Louisiana to help Hurricane Katrina refugees.
The World Compassion Network executive director said the organization is receiving donations to purchase needed supplies. The organization has four portable generators and bottled water ready to go. They need to replace funds and to purchase more water. Plans also are to buy cleaning supplies.
Checks should be made out to World Compassion Network and mailed to P.O. Box 1152, Warsaw, IN 46581.
Other Efforts
Whitko district schools - the high school and elementary in South Whitley; the middle school in Larwill; and the elementary school in Pierceton - are sponsoring a penny pitch for the displaced folks in the South. The money will be collected throughout next week and donated to relief efforts Friday.
The Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care staff is holding a bake sale Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Milford facility from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Donated goods are welcome. Lakeland Rehabilitation is at 505 W. Fourth St.

Nappanee city employees are holding a food drive for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. All non-perishable items can be dropped off anytime at the Nappanee Police Station, 301 W. Lincoln St.
Checks can be made out to the American Red Cross - Disaster Relief and dropped off at the same location.
