Editor, Times-Union: Since announcing my candidacy for Kosciusko County Council in January, I’ve been extremely hard at work meeting voters. My campaign has been at First Friday, the Republican Fish Fry and on many voters’ doorsteps. In fact, this weekend we will have a booth at the Great American Garage Sale. It’s been an incredible experience. The support I’ve received has been huge. I firmly believe that this county is ready for new ideas, fresh leadership and honest character. That’s what I posses as a person and that’s what I will bring as a county councilman. The only question I’ve had raised against me is about my experience, which is only natural considering my youthful age. But I have this to say in reply: How many very experienced men and women are in Congress? Some are near 80 years old and have been in congress for 30 years! They certainly have immense experience in both life and the political process. But how much is all that experience helping them to do a good job? I’ll let you answer that. Secondly, name one other candidate, besides myself, who has been to nearly every meeting for the past two years and at each one took detailed notes over each matter of business brought before the council? Who else has spent hours reading over the council’s minutes and educating themselves on all the detailed words and terminology? Nobody ever told me I had to do all of these things. But I wanted to, because I wanted to be the best councilman possible. I care so greatly about our county. I care so greatly about our future. I will always put the good of the people before myself. Nor will I ever be swayed or bullied into taking a particular position. I might be more than half the age of the other council members, but I know where I stand. I want the citizens of this county to know, and the members on the council to know, I will be rock solid on my principles no matter the pressure. You can email me at evanjmckinley@yahoo.com. If you would like to just send a message of support, talk to me about my campaign, or discuss county issues, I certainly encourage you to contact me. I cannot wait to serve Kosciusko and her people!
