Workforce Development Proposes County Control

Posted

Kosciusko County Commissioners endorsed a proposal to place control of local Workforce Development in a county-appointed board.

Juan Manigault, of Workforce Development, gave a brief overview to the commissioners Tuesday of a proposal he will be submitting to the state.

Currently, all control is located in Indianapolis, where a board determines how funds for Workforce Development should be allocated. Manigault's proposal would place control in a county board appointed by the county commissioners.

After some clarification on what Workforce Development does for the community, the commissioners unanimously approved the proposal.

The Kosciusko County Recorder's office will put its last 157 record books on microfilm soon.

The commissioners approved a request by county recorder Alice Anglin to film record books from before 1945.

Anglin said if anything were to happen to the books there would be no remaining record of the deeds and other information stored in them.

The cost of the project is $18,055.

Commissioner Eddie Creighton asked about the money available for the project, and Anglin said there would be "no tax money in that."

The money being used to pay for the project comes from the fees the recorder's office collects for making copies of public records.

The 157 books are the last that need to be microfilmed in the recorder's office.

The commissioners also got their first look at the 1998 road plan from the Kosciusko County Highway Department.

Rob Ladson, highway engineer, took a different approach this year to preparing the plan.

He allocated a certain amount of funds to each of the eight territories in the county. Patrolmen in those territories gave input on how to best spend the funds.

The commissioners were not asked to take any action but were given copies of the proposed road plan.

In other business, the Fox Run subdivision in Syracuse was given permission to build speed bumps.
