Posted

LARWILL – Whitko Career Academy spotlighted Ethan Yates and Catherine Deckena, who serve in a job-share role as front office assistants.
As the first point of contact for visitors, Yates and Deckena play an important role in creating a welcoming, professional and safe environment for the school, according to a news release from Whitko Community Schools.
In their positions, they greet guests, answer incoming phone calls and ensure calls are transferred to the appropriate staff members. A critical component of their responsibilities includes helping maintain school safety by verifying that all visitors have a valid purpose for being on campus before granting access. They also assist with a variety of office projects, supporting daily operations and administrative needs.
Through their work at Whitko Career Academy, Yates and Deckena are developing employability skills such as communication, professionalism, teamwork and attention to detail. Their reliability and positive attitudes make a meaningful impact on the school community, stated the release.
After graduation, Yates plans to attend Purdue University, while Deckena hopes to continue working in an office setting, building on the skills she has developed through her experience at Whitko Career Academy.
