Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Nicholas D. Wood, son of Kathleen M. and Devon R. Wood, of Warsaw, was recently named Commander, Patrol and Reconnaissance Group Shore Sailor of the Year, and Patrol Squadron Thirty (VP-30) Senior Sailor of the Year, while assigned to VP-30, Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Fla.

He resides in Jacksonville with his wife, Beverlyn, and three children, Zoe, Sheen and Sayge.

As the non-acoustic division leading petty officer, his roles included training and qualifying 18 instructors, serving as the Moral, Welfare, and Recreation president for VP-30, and leading a team in the revision of the non-acoustic fleet replacement squadron curriculum. He also led his team in the training and graduation of 54 students this year.

He was previously selected as VP-30’s Sailor of the Arena in 2011 for extraordinary leadership and superb mentorship. Wood’s selection for these prestigious awards is a direct result of his dedication and work ethic.

He has recently been excepted to Officers Canadette School in Rhode Island. After completion of his training he will be deployed overseas.

Wood is a 1997 graduate of Warsaw Community High School and joined the Navy in April 2000. He is a 2010 graduate of Columbia College, Columbia, Mo., with a bachelor’s degree.
