SYRACUSE - Nearly $60,000 was raised by the 145 people who attended the Women of Today’s second annual Benefit at the Barn event Friday evening, Oct. 10.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to support Wawasee community youth through various programs and services.
In addition to ticket sale proceeds, funds were raised through a silent and live auction as guests bid on a variety of items donated by local businesses and individuals. Guests also enjoyed heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by The Owls Nest, complimentary champagne and a cash bar amid the rustic ambience of the Herr Barn, 7813 E. 800N, south of Syracuse. Live music was provided by SoulShot featuring John Kirkwood.
Women of Today is a local nonprofit group dedicated to strengthening the community through youth programs, according to a provided news release. Women of Today meets monthly with a single mission to support youth, education and inclusivity in school activities and sports programs. The group is committed to helping children thrive while providing resources to five local schools in the Wawasee school district. These funds allow schools, administrators and teachers to access supplemental support for classroom and program needs that often fall outside of traditional budgets.
Through its outreach and fundraising, the organization provides scholarships for graduating seniors, assistance with field trip expenses, summer camp opportunities and sponsorships for youth sports and library programs, ensuring every child has the chance to participate fully in education and growth, the release states. Additionally, the group helps support The Hanger at Wawasee High School which provides snacks, clothing and hygiene items to students.
