Woman Arrested After Car Fire, Gun Incident In ClaypoolA woman was arrested on a drug charge after a Monday morning incident involving a car fire and a shotgun in Claypool.

At approximately 9:03 a.m. Monday, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies, along with Claypool Fire Department, were dispatched to 3267 W. Hill Lake Road in reference to a care fire near a residence.

A Claypool officer was first to arrive to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames, according to a news release from the KCSD. During the course of the investigation, a woman, Jodi Carter, 44, was found in her backyard armed with a shotgun. Carter would not comply with officers on scene and, after lengthy negotiations, was taken into custody.

Carter was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail and initially booked for possession of methamphetamine. The KCSD continues to investigate and future charges may be pending.

KCSD was assisted at the scene by Silver Lake Police Department, Claypool Police Department, Department of Natural Resources, Claypool Fire Department, Silver Lake Fire Department, Lutheran EMS and the KCSD Special Operation Group.
