WNIT To Tape 'Dinner And A Book' Highlighting Billy Sunday's Life During Taste Of WinonaWINONA LAKE - South Bend television station WNIT will visit this year's Taste Of Winona to tape a "Dinner And A Book" segment and discuss the life of Billy Sunday.

The taping will be July 18 at 12:30 p.m. under the gazebo in the Village At Winona.

Taste of Winona is July 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The taping will be 26.5 minutes long.

The third annual Taste of Winona features eight wineries and six Kosciusko County restaurants that will be on the Village At Winona shops' porches, offering tastings of their finest creations.The cost to attend the event is $10 per patron for wine tasting. Restaurants will sell their own culinary delights. Net proceeds support the Symphony of the Lakes.

"Dinner and a Book" will air on Channel 10 Sept. 12 at 10:30 a.m. with a repeat Sept. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Gail Martin, WNIT, will serve as host of the taping, and she will have six to seven crew members with her.

Martin said the station is in its ninth season of airing the program "Dinner and A Book."

The show airs Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.

"We want to give our viewers a feel for how the town was developed and its history," Martin said.

Syracuse resident Rebecca Kubacki will serve as a guest on the show. She will prepare a bean salad with a picnic theme as was eaten during the Billy Sunday days on the Winona Lake Hotel lawn.

She also will use a bowl from Warsaw Cut Glass for the salad and fruit. She plans to incorporate fruits from local farmer's markets and discuss the local markets during the taping.

Martin will prepare three salads during the show, including a heirloom tomato salad, Bok Choy carrot and apple slaw salad, and a cantaloupe and mozzarella salad with mint.

The featured book that Martin and Kubacki will discuss is "Hero of the Heartland" by Robert F. Martin.

The book focuses on evangelist Billy Sunday and the transformation of American society from 1862 to 1935. The book was published in 2002.

The taping also will include an interview with Brent Wilcoxson, Village At Winona managing director.

Wilcoxson will make homemade ice cream during the taping.

Those who attend the Taste Of Winona are invited to finish their day off by attending the last MasterWorks Festival concert.

The theatrical ThorntonWilder's "Our Town" will be performed at McClain Auditorium at 2 p.m.

The MasterWorks Philharmonic Orchestra will feature the world-renowned piano soloist Hugh Sung, who will perform at Rodeheaver Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Dane Miller is scheduled to be featured on the "Dinner And A Book" show this fall when his book "Maverick CEO" will be discussed.
