This is nuts. The Winona Lake chief of police, Paul Schmitt, is allowing bow hunters on the mountain bike trails in and around the Winona Lake Heritage Greenway.
Having hunters on the trails - where people bike, hike and run at all hours of the day - is crazy enough, but the very place on the trails where my wife ran into the hunters last week, I could easily (with half effort) throw a stone onto the nearby greenway.
Incredibly (and ominously), yesterday as I stood on that ridge where my wife met up with those hunters and I looked down at that nearby greenway, at that very moment a woman was walking by on that greenway pushing a stroller with her baby inside. I wonder how comfortable she would have felt to know there was a hunter poised so close to her and baby that he could have seen the whites of her eyes?
