With Adjustment, Kosciusko At 506 Positive COVID-19 CasesBetween noon Monday and noon Wednesday, the Kosciusko County Health Department (KCHD) received a total of 14 new cases.
This gives Kosciusko County a total of 506 positive cases and three deaths.
On Monday, the KCHD reported it already had 501 cases. However, KCHD has identified a testing location that has recently started using a method of testing that currently does not meet the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) diagnosis criteria of a "confirmed" COVID-19 case, according to a news release from the Health Department.
This finding has ruled out a handful of positive results.
“In the rapidly changing environment, providers are seeking ways to perform rapid and accurate testing to direct patient care. We are working with ISDH and providers to create a plan that provides effective public health tracking and intervention, while supporting providers who update available equipment and testing for the health of their customers. We do not have solutions at this time, but will be working and addressing the problem areas and will provide updates as information is available,” the KCHD release states.
Of the 506 confirmed positive cases in Kosciusko County since March, 272 are recovered, six are hospitalized active cases and 228 are active cases.
By race, 58.5% are white, 39.9% are Hispanic, 0.4% are African American and 1.2% are other in Kosciusko County. The county’s population estimates, according to 2017 figures provided, are that 88% are white, 2% are Asian, 1% are African American and 1% are other.
The most commonly reported symptoms of cases are cough, fever, myalgia, headache, chills, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, sore throat, runny nose and shortness of breath.
The most common comorbidities (the simultaneous presence of two chronic diseases or conditions in a patient) of positive cases are cardiovascular disease, smoker/former smoker, diabetes and chronic lung disease.
ISDH on Wednesday announced that 371 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and private laboratories. That brings to 45,952 the total number of Indiana residents known to have the novel coronavirus following corrections to the previous day’s total.
Intensive care unit and ventilator capacity remains steady. As of Wednesday, more than 39% of ICU beds and nearly 83% of ventilators are available, according to the daily ISDH news release.
A total of 2,456 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of eight over the previous day. Another 194 probable deaths have been reported based on clinical diagnoses in patients for whom no positive test is on record. Deaths are reported based on when data are received by ISDH and occurred over multiple days.
To date, 489,716 tests have been reported to ISDH, up from 484,196 on Tuesday.
