The Kosciusko County Highway Department is dealing with a salt shortage.
According to Kosciusko County Highway Department Superintendent Dennis Pletcher, the department used half of the salt purchased for this winter in December.
"The problem is when you lay salt down on the first snow, you expect it to get colder as the winter goes along. What we've had this winter is a snow, then it warms up and melts and washes all that salt away. So we have to start from square one."
Pletcher said his crews started plowing roads at 4 a.m. Tuesday and many employees worked 12 hours or more.
One thing drivers won't have to worry about with the wintry weather is potholes.
Snow and ice have filled up a lot of the potholes in the county.
But Pletcher advised that as the snow melts again, it will worsen the conditions of those potholes.
Conditions have improved slightly.
While most schools in the area were closed yesterday, most were open today after two-hour delays.
